CF Asia 2014 – Retouching

When using a central photo (or several central photos) to identify the visuals of an event, it’s key to make sure that the chosen imagery will work well in multiple formats – long horizontal postcards, tall vertical signage, square invitations, rectangular brochures, etc. This typically means choosing an image with a great deal of negative space or, alternatively, creating that space on your own. These extended areas will then be used to overlay text, graphics, logos, and other information.

When presenting an event about aircraft, it is also important to be neutral in terms of what you are presenting (no specific airlines and, if possible, less emphasis on aircraft manufacturer).

For CF Asia, the emphasis is not only on the aircraft but on Hong Kong itself, the host city. To that end for several years I have licensed photography from local Hong Kong Aviation photographers. In 2014, I licensed two fantastic images from local photographer Sneeze Lam and then extended and modified them to suit. Above is the main image, below is the original.

Secondary and tertiary images are also required in this situation, though modifications are typically not as extensive as these images are used in fewer places. Below is a secondary image.
