If you can’t easily find the artwork you need to satisfy the demands of a particular client you have three options: Give up – never an acceptable choice; buy the artwork from somewhere that may be costly; or make the artwork directly on your own. In this case, the main image for the show (as well as several of the related images) were composites of many other pieces of artwork.

Originally, the concept was done using original photography of vintage race cars – lead by the Red Camaro below (the show’s signature color is red). However, it was felt by some that these cars were not evocative enough, so race cars were substituted. The vintage shot is an amalgam of four shots – the track background and the three vehicles. The modern racers were added in the opposite direction, with the track flipped. The track backdrop fit perfectly and allowed for considerable background extension on all sides with a minimum of effort. For the purpose of this event, all brands were removed from the race cars (sourced under creative commons from a contributor), and the motion blur added to further de-identify the vehicles and only emphasize the speed and competition.
