B1 Complete

Posted on Jun 15, 2014 by in aircraft 2014

Every new aircraft must be test flown, and in the case of the 777-300ER, that usually means a flight from Paine Field, where the 777 is made, to Grant County International Airport (MWH, Moses Lake) and back, with a check list of processes to be performed during the flights. This is what is commonly known as a “B1” flight – a test flight by Boeing for evaluation purposes. It is also often conducted before the aircraft is fully painted – only control surfaces (wings, rudder, etc.) are painted at this time. The rest of the fuselage is encased in a green protective coating (often called “green wrap”) which is then washed off prior to painting. Here, a new 777-300ER for EVA Air is arriving at the conclusion of its B1 routine.
