Close up with the GEnx
|
First flown at the tail end of 2009, the Boeing 787 was still in flight testing when this photo was taken. The engines the 787, both the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 (test aircraft one through four) and the General Electric GEnx-1b (test aircraft five and six) were new as well, and this shot provides a close look at the nacelle that houses the engine and the pylon which mounts the nacelle to the wing. Test aircraft 5 is seen here. The testing fleet of aircraft were a regular sight around Washington state at that time, and after many such flights, the aircraft was certified in August of 2011. |
