Close up with the GEnx

Posted on Mar 5, 2011 by in Aircraft 2011

First flown at the tail end of 2009, the Boeing 787 was still in flight testing when this photo was taken. The engines the 787, both the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 (test aircraft one through four) and the General Electric GEnx-1b (test aircraft five and six) were new as well, and this shot provides a close look at the nacelle that houses the engine and the pylon which mounts the nacelle to the wing. Test aircraft 5 is seen here. The testing fleet of aircraft were a regular sight around Washington state at that time, and after many such flights, the aircraft was certified in August of 2011.
